Hi Mr. Hayes:

Thank you so much for checking with your local PSB!

At this moment, I'm going to give the one-day FRP extension a shot as this seems to be agreeable with the Nanjing PSB. However, if on Friday the attempt fails, I will have to take other measures.

I'll keep you and Dr. Greg apprised of my situation.

Thank you both so much!

Sincerely,

Eric

Eric,

Neither our visa consultant nor the section chief of Jinan University's International Affairs Office has heard of any change in L-visa policy. To the best of their knowledge, foreigners can still downgrade a foreign residency permit to an L-visa.

Either this is some idiosyncratic interpretation of policy in your province or your FAO is misinformed.

Hi Dr. Greg,

Thank you for checking your sources for me.

All I really need is just a day extension. Tourist visa or one-day extension of my current FRP are both fine for me, just as long as I get that extra day. I'll let you know what happens with the extension application. Besides, the 940RMB to extend my visa is cheaper than the 1,200RMB to get a tourist visa.

Once again, thanks for taking interest in my situation, Dr. Greg! I appreciate all of your help.

Sincerely,

Eric

Conclusion: The PSB cancelled my residence permit that would have expired on June 30th, 2010, and replaced it with a tourist (L) visa that will expire on July 1st, 2010.
