If you read the Guide's chapter on
Finding and Applying for Jobs in China, you will see that you don't need to pay cultural exchange organizations and recruiters for securing a job teaching English in China. Some of these organizations actually earn part of that money by providing TEFL training and "orientation," but if you are capable of conducting your own due diligence, you don't need to pay a third party to do it for you.
Follow the Guide's recommendations on how to find a job, use the
Mini-Checklist for asking the right questions, and you will increase your chances of having a rewarding experience. If you want to earn a TEFL certificate before applying for jobs, it is generally much cheaper to do so with a dedicated school instead of through a cultural exchange organization.
