Naturalization as Chinese

Postby jigme » Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:39 pm

Hello:
I´m from Chile, married a Tibetan in India, holding Nepalese papers. We are Buddhist practitioners of meditation and just want to make meditation life quietly without visas worries. I think it could be good to go to live to Tibet. We don´t want to have any involvement in politics and just want to make quiet meditation life free in Tibet. We have a son also Registered in Kathmandu with the Nepalese papers. Does someone think Chinese government would help us?. I am willing to give up chilean nationality as well as for our son.
Please all insights are welcome. We need help.
Best wishes to all.
Jigme.

It isn't clear to me from what you've written if your wife is still a Chinese national but, if she is, this will certainly help your application for Chinese citizenship. You would, of course, first have to establish permanent residency in China and then renounce your Nepalese citizenship.

Chinese citizenship is very much handled on a case-by-case, highly individualized basis, resting predominantly on the sensibilities and discretion of the particular authority who is considering the application. There is really no way to predict how your application will be responded to.

A good place to start would be to first read through the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China. I think your best bet is to consult an immigration attorney because it appears from my reading of China's nationality law that there is no way for a foreigner to apply for Chinese citizenship without first having lived in the country for a period of time.

Best of luck to you.
