Ascertaining The Credibility of a China EFL Website

Postby New_Recruit » Wed Jan 19, 2011 5:54 pm

Hello,

I am considering applying for a job for an English teacher position in Hunan province starting in mid-February, hence why an urgent response would be appreciated.

I am a little skeptical of their website but have been in contact by email with a man named Chris and he has been extremely helpful. I just would not want any problems when I show up and I can see they are a fairly new company.

I would appreciate if you, Dr. Greg, could check it out and see what you think and maybe touch base with them?

Dr. Greg is not available now so I'll provide an initial response and he can add to it later if he wishes.

At MKL we provide the resources for you to do your own due diligence prior to accepting a job. Between our checklists, articles, and forums, you should be adequately equipped to determine if the position appears safe enough to consider accepting a position.

As you can imagine, given the numbers of viewers, we have no way of individually contacting schools, determining their fitness and responding back to each poster about his or her school inquiry. This is an uncompensated volunteer effort that, as it stands, already requires considerable care and feeding.

Our purpose is to provide the readers of our site information to equip themselves adequately to avoid the many traps and pitfalls in China ESL employment. If you have diligently read and followed our writings, you'll not go far wrong.

I would urge you to check out the resources we offer, and having exhausted them, submit any specific questions or concerns you may have to Dr. Greg or myself.

Take a look at the article How to Evaluate the Credibility of China EFL Websites for a good place to start your search.

Keep in mind that all recruiters--as well as EFL websites that accept advertisements from schools and recruiters--regard the schools, not the teachers, as their clients.

Consequently, as Ken pointed out above, you must apply due diligence (based on what we advise on this site) to reviewing each and every job offer regardless of where or how you obtained the job lead or offer.
