Tiger Prawn Vietnamese Restaurant Review

Our first visit to the Tiger Prawn Vietnamese Restaurant occurred about six weeks ago when I had the occasion to host a Vietnamese-Canadian psychiatrist who was visiting Jinan University's International School. She had inquired about Vietnamese food in Guangzhou and a brief search on the Internet brought up a very limited selection but with the Tiger Prawn having received excellent reviews across the board. Turns out that all the accolades were well-deserved and we've been back two more times after that initial visit. As a footnote, my Vietnamese-Canadian friend, who was born and raised in Vietnam, confirmed that the food was both authentic and well-prepared.

My favorite dish quickly emerged as the Chicken Coconut Curry Soup (see photo) that comes with a loaf of homemade French bread and several pieces of succulent chicken. The fried spring rolls (probably the best known Vietnamese appetizer among Westerners) do not disappoint and are crisp and tasty. My wife typically orders the Curry Beef Noodles and has raved about them each time. Our friends yesterday (on our third visit) ordered the Beef Curry (see photo) and Seafood Noodles and both dishes were reported as excellent. Finally, they also have a limited but satisfying dessert menu that includes an ice cream Sundae served inside a hollowed-out coconut. Very nice.

The Tiger Prawn Vietnamese Restaurant, the branch that is street-level on 548 Huifu Dong Lu, is highly recommended for a nice change of pace from standard Chinese and Chinese Western food.
