In response to a forum question from one of our readers, it has been confirmed by our Chinese consultant, Gavin Xu, that the new official SAFEA teaching contract includes a mandatory stipulation of a one-month probationary period.
Previously, probationary periods were addressed in the contract addendum only and were negotiable. Whether this is intended to regulate probationary periods across universities for foreign teachers and how this will be responded to by universities in their contract addendums remain to be seen.
There are no other significant changes in the official SAFEA contract.
