Finding Chinese University Contact Information

Postby mdragosz » Wed May 12, 2010 8:11 am

Hello,

I'm trying to apply for a university job in China and I'm having a lot of trouble finding the right contact information to send in resumes, etc.

Do you have any resources that have their information?

Thank you.

If you are applying cold to universities in China, i.e., not responding to a specific ad that includes contact information, the only way to ascertain this information is by searching for and then visiting the university's website, if they have one.

The problem with this approach is that the English version of the site, if one even exists, is often only a shadow of the full Chinese version.

While a few Chinese universities include employment contact information, most do not. However, almost all include contact information for international students and, usually, this will lead you to the correct office: foreign or international affairs office (although not always).

Best of luck.

A good place to start your search is with the list of names of universities in China available from the Ministry of Education.

These are not active links, or even URLs, just a list of names sorted by province, but you can use the names as a starting point for a web search.

A less complete list, but including links and descriptions, can be found on Wikipedia's List of Chinese Universities.

Once you have the names of the universities in your preferred province/city then it is easy to come up with contact info from universities or agency websites. I recently found a job in my target area using a list I prepared this way and then sending them a standard email with attached scans of my degrees, reference letters, and etc.

I also suggest sending an MP3 of you reading a prepared text of a short blurb about why you would be a good person to hire. I did not include this with my earliest messages, and I noticed a significant increase in response after I put in the MP3.

Good luck to you.
