Housing Provision and Airfare Reimbursement

Postby bigbertha512002 » Tue May 11, 2010 1:26 am

Hi Ken,

Our daughter is now finishing a contract teaching in Wuhan and wishes to continue teaching in China, in Shanghai specifically.

She has been offered a job and received the contract that does not include either airfare reimbursement or housing. Is this unusual? Her last contract included both.

Thanks so much for your help.

Generally speaking, schools do not reimburse foreign teachers for domestic travel expenses, e.g., local transportation and other moving costs.

Private schools in Shanghai do not typically provide housing but that is presumably because the cost of an apartment has been at least partially factored into the salary.

Specifically, what are the terms of the contract, e.g., number of face-to-face teaching hours per week and monthly salary?
